  2. We'll Tell You If Motorola Isn't Right: Motorola makes excellent equipment, but it isn't necessarily the right choice for every requirement or budget. Motorola Two-Way Radio FAQs

Answers to some of the most common questions about Motorola two-way radios, MOTOTRBO systems, licensing, range and features.

For organisations that value durability, long-term support, advanced features and access to a large professional radio ecosystem, Motorola can justify its higher price. For simpler requirements, however, a less expensive radio may do the job perfectly well. We can help you compare the options.

There isn't a single reliable range figure for a Motorola two-way radio. Actual coverage depends on the radio, frequency, antenna, surrounding buildings, terrain, interference and how and where the radios are being used. Manufacturer range figures are often based on favourable conditions and may not reflect a real working environment. For larger or more challenging sites, repeaters or other system designs can be used to improve coverage. If coverage is important, talk to us about your site and requirements and we'll help you identify an appropriate solution.

It depends on the radio and how it is used. Motorola offers licence-free PMR446 radios as well as licensed professional radio systems. We can help identify the appropriate option and assist with Ofcom licensing where required.

MOTOTRBO is Motorola Solutions' professional digital mobile radio (DMR) platform. It includes handheld and mobile radios, repeaters, system infrastructure, software and associated applications, with options ranging from relatively straightforward digital radio systems to more advanced networks.

Motorola offers selected radios designed and certified for use in particular potentially explosive environments. ATEX suitability depends on the required hazardous-area classification, so the correct model and certification need to be checked for the intended environment rather than assuming that any ATEX-labelled radio is suitable.

Man Down and Lone Worker are safety features available on selected Motorola radios and systems. Man Down can be configured to raise an alert when a radio detects that its user may have fallen or remained in a particular position, while Lone Worker can require the user to respond periodically to confirm that they are safe. The exact operation and available options depend on the radio, programming and wider system configuration. These features should be properly specified and configured for the intended application and should not be treated as a substitute for an organisation's own risk assessment, procedures or dedicated safety systems where these are required.

Yes. Where appropriate, we can programme compatible Motorola radios before dispatch so that they are configured for the customer's intended system and requirements.

Yes. We supply Motorola because we consider it an excellent professional radio brand, but we also supply alternatives. If another manufacturer offers a better fit for your requirements or budget, we'll say so.
